Recognition that never phones home
VibeVoice uses Apple's Speech framework for live transcription — the same engine behind system dictation. When your Mac supports on-device recognition, VibeVoice requires it: the audio is processed locally and never leaves the machine.
You see your words appear live as you speak, correct them if you like, and send. It's dictation for people who think faster than they type — which, mid-debug, is everyone.

Speaking
A voice you pick, at a pace you set
Replies are spoken with real macOS system voices — on-device, like the listening. Prefer a studio voice? Bring your own key for a cloud engine; it's strictly opt-in.
macOS system voices
VibeVoice lists your installed English voices best-quality first and defaults to Nathan — a premium macOS voice — when you have it. Speech rate is yours to adjust.
Cloud TTS, your key
Add an OpenAI, Gemini or ElevenLabs key and Vibe speaks with that engine instead. No key, no cloud — the choice is explicit, never a default.
Never leaves you in silence
Bad key, network down, provider hiccup? The reply still gets spoken — VibeVoice quietly falls back to the system voice instead of leaving you in silence.
Consent, the boring way
Standard macOS permissions. Nothing creative.
VibeVoice asks for microphone and speech-recognition access through the normal macOS permission prompts — the ones the OS enforces, not ones we drew ourselves. Decline them and the rest of the app works exactly as before; voice is a layer on top of VibeBrain, never a requirement.
