The Grok 4.6 official launch is confirmed. SpaceXAI, the company formerly called xAI, published the model on August 12, 2026. The public API identifier is grok-4.6. Developer docs now tell teams to use Grok 4.6 for code, chat, and agent work instead of Grok 4.5.
That closes the August 8 watch. A founder target around August 7 was not a launch. A model card, an API identifier, pricing, and a product page are. Those now exist.
What SpaceXAI actually shipped
The launch post says Grok 4.6 builds on Grok 4.5 with a focus on long-running agents and more ambitious interactive and visual work. The model keeps a 500,000 token context window. It accepts text and image input and returns text only. There is no stated text output cap. Knowledge cutoff is February 1, 2026.

Requests whose prompt reaches 200,000 tokens move to $4 / $1 / $12 for input, cached input, and output. SpaceXAI also lists a fast variant at twice the price. The first week includes double usage inside Grok Build and Cursor.
Where you can run it today
Grok 4.6 is on the SpaceXAI API, Grok Build, and Cursor. The company also lists OpenRouter, Vercel, and Cloudflare as partner routes. For a coding agent, Grok Build is the first-party harness. For an existing Cursor seat, the model is available on all plans.
Do not treat a partner listing as proof that your account, region, or spend cap already includes it. Check the identifier in the product you actually pay for before you change a default.
What this is not
A launch is not a reason to retire Grok 4.5 on day one. It is also not a Grok 4.7 release. Keep the prior model as a rollback while you run a small fixed evaluation set from your own repository. Vendor charts belong in a launch note. Rank belongs on the live Grok 4.6 scorecard.
